Technology is playing an increasingly important role in society, while the shortage of technically skilled professionals continues to grow. At the same time, the number of young people choosing technical education remains relatively low. Young people often do not yet associate technology with something enjoyable or appealing, even though positive experiences at an early age can strongly influence how they see their future.

Stichting Jeugd & Beroep and Stichting Hightech Helmond-de Peel therefore wanted to explore how young people could encounter technology in a different way.

How can young people aged 9 to 14 discover technology in a positive way, starting from their own interests and motivations? Technology is not seen as an end in itself, but as a means of helping young people discover their talents, interests and possibilities.

The designers therefore focus on young people’s everyday lives, curiosity and motivations, and explore how play, interaction, creativity and experience can contribute to a different perception of technology.

Stichting Jeugd & Beroep and Stichting Hightech Helmond-de Peel selected Mariska Lamiaud (nojoke studio), Denise Huigen, Tim van der Grinten and Jolie Smets (Enversed Studio).

Mariska and Denise have experience in social design, education and working with young people. Tim and Jolie have experience in interactive experiences, technology and gamification.
