Healing Bridge

How can building bridges lead to new ways of working together, with each other and with water?

Co/lab Helende Brug
Starting point

Climate change is bringing longer periods of drought, heavier rainfall and increasing pressure on the water system. At the same time, what is needed to keep water clean, healthy and available remains invisible to many people. The Waterambassade (translation: Water Embassy) is therefore exploring how design can contribute to a different relationship between people and water, and how residents can become more actively involved in the future of the water system.

The challenge

How can building bridges lead to new ways of working together, with each other and with water?

The project explores how a bridge can be more than a connection between two riverbanks and can also become a place where people experience, care for and value water. It also asks how such a place can contribute to a community that takes shared responsibility for a healthy living environment.

The selection

The Waterambassade and Dutch Design Foundation selected Floris Schoonderbeek. As a designer and concept developer, he explores how products and spatial interventions can respond to emerging needs and contribute to a more sustainable and self-sufficient way of living.
